Role Overview
CLMRS Field Officers serve as the primary point of contact for households participating in the Child Labour Monitoring and Remediation System (CLMRS). They build trusted relationships with farming families, provide ongoing support and guidance, raise awareness about child labour and child rights, and follow up on identified cases to ensure meaningful remediation.
Officers are equipped with the necessary tools (e.g., tablets, awareness materials) and receive continuous training, mentoring, and technical support from Project Managers and CLMRS Supervisors to effectively carry out their responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the CLMRS Field Supervisor, the Field Officer will:
- Conduct regular visits to assigned households and farms to engage with families and promote child protection.
- Raise awareness on child labour and child rights, encouraging positive behavioural change.
- Interview all household members, including children aged 5–17, to identify cases of child labour or risk.
- Verify child labour cases through farm visits and complement household data.
- Provide guidance and support to households to help children transition out of child labour, including delivering material support when necessary.
- Recommend additional support based on the specific needs of children and families.
- Conduct follow-up visits every 3–6 months to monitor progress and evolving needs.
- Track and report on the implementation and impact of prevention and remediation actions.
- Promote child protection at the community level through awareness campaigns and data collection.
- Collect and upload accurate data using standardized mobile tools.
- Facilitate visits by International Cocoa Initiative (ICI) staff and partners to communities and households.
- Maintain all project equipment and materials in good working condition.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of a Diploma or University Degree.
- Experience in child protection or anti-child labour initiatives is a strong asset.
- Familiarity with life in cocoa-growing communities.
- Demonstrated integrity, empathy, and respect within community settings.
- Ability to communicate sensitively and support behavioural change.
- Willingness to learn and coach others.
- Must maintain neutrality (e.g., not affiliated with political parties).
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust-based relationships.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure while maintaining accountability.
- Proficiency in using smartphones and mobile data collection applications.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Experience in facilitating discussions and knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Effective information management and reporting skills.
- Willingness to travel frequently within assigned communities.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Fluency in Akan or other relevant local languages.
- Ability to operate a motorcycle (valid license or willingness to obtain one).
