Overview

ofi (Olam Food Ingredients) is a new entity born out of Olam International. ofi offers sustainable, natural, value-added food products and ingredients so that consumers can enjoy the healthy and indulgent products they love. It consists of Olam’s industry-leading businesses of cocoa, coffee, nuts, spices and dairy. 
 

ofi has built a unique global value chain presence including its own farms, farm-gate origination and manufacturing facilities. ofi partners with customers, leveraging its complementary & differentiated portfolio of “on-trend” food products, to co-create solutions that anticipate and meet changing consumer preferences as demand increases for healthier food that’s traceable & sustainable.

The scope of the SIBD function in Olam Food Ingredients (ofi) covers M&A transactions (including divestments, joint ventures), strategy projects, as well as greenfield/ organic investments. As a key member of the SIBD team, the M&A Manager will be assisting in the: 

  • M&A transactions: end-to-end management of acquisition and divestment processes (~40-50% of time spent)
  • Strategy projects (~20-30%)
    • building/ refreshing Corporate as well as Business Unit (BU) strategy 
    • environmental scanning for future growth
  • Other projects & internal reporting (~20-30%)
    • evaluation of greenfield investment proposals
    • analytical P&L for the select businesses, incl. trend analysis, cost sheets, transfer pricing etc. 
    • reporting to the corporate centre

Role Description

  • Support best-in-class execution of acquisition and divestment projects including but not limited to business case development, valuation and financial modelling, due-diligence, structuring, documentation and process management
  • This role involves end-to-end exposure to M&A deal cycle. The candidate is expected to be running a transaction of a certain size reasonably independently within 2-3 years 
  • Work closely with the central management team as well as BU leadership team on projects involving building or refreshing the corporate and BU strategy on a periodic basis
  • Review organic investment proposals submitted by businesses and submit recommendations to the investment or executive committee
  • Analytical P&L for the select businesses, including trend analysis, cost sheets, transfer pricing aspects as well as product-wise business plans, key drivers analysis and budget vs actual analysis.
  • Review performance of on-going and completed organic & inorganic investments and prepare management reports to facilitate reviews at the Board as well as Management Investment Committees
  • Continuously review and upgrade standard global templates used for investment proposals (in MS word) and financial models (in MS excel) 
  • Any ad hoc duties assigned
  • The role requires the person to work with multi-disciplinary teams in different time zones 
     

Educational & Experience

  • Relevant professional qualification (e.g., MBA with a major in finance and/ or strategy, CA or CPA)
  • Ideal candidate would be one who has 3-8 years of experience in a food & beverage ingredient corporate, in one or more of the following areas:
    • Strategy, business development and commercial due diligence 
    • Analytical finance (transfer pricing, cost sheet, trend analysis, actual vs budget)
    • Exposure to live M&A transactions (even if not the full deal cycle), including due diligence
  • Solid knowledge of valuation & accounting concepts, is adept at building financial models and power point presentations, has passion to learn about new businesses and has attention to detail & outcome orientation
  • Ability to grasp high-level landscape and articulate complex situations/ structures in a lucid manner
  • High degree of proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel and Power point 
  • Familiarity with tools like Capital IQ, Reuters, Bloomberg
